Work is complete on the £5.1 million Queens Gate Housing project to build the first "eco-friendly" homes in Clydebank. This landmark building with its curved facade and high quality external appearance is the first social housing in Clydebank for 5 years.
The 40 one and two bedroom apartments for social rent for Clydebank Housing Association at Cart Street were officially opened by the Culture Minister Michael Russell MSP on 31st August 2009.
The project was managed by Clydebank re-built and is sited on a one - acre vacant site, previously owned by West Dunbartonshire Council. Architects for the project are Elder & Cannon, Glasgow and following competitive tender, the builders are Glasgow-based CCG (Scotland ) Ltd
All the homes have been designed to a top "very good" eco-rating, with high insulation, energy efficient fittings and heating, low CO2 emissions, waste recycling facilities, sustainable sourced building materials and customised glazed balconies.
The new Queens Gate development includes a charging port to power the housing association's electric cars which can be hired on a daily basis by residents.
Funding comes from the Scottish Government, Clydebank Housing Association and its funder the Clydesdale Bank, and Clydebank re-built.
Eleanor McAllister, managing director of Clydebank Rebuilt said "The four storey apartments at the entrance to Queens Quays will be a landmark development of quality design near the River Clyde. We are delighted to be managing this project in partnership with Clydebank Housing Association".
The development has won three prestigious awards namely, the Glasgow Institute of Architects Award beating 24 other entries, a Scottish Design Award and most recently was the only development to receive a Saltire Award in the large scale housing category.
