Residential development will figure prominently in the regeneration of the Clydebank Waterfront Corridor and Town Centre. It is projected that by 2020, around 1600 new homes could be provided at several locations. The principal location will be Queens Quays, with an estimated 1200 new housing units. The provision of greater housing choice for existing local residents, returners and newcomers is a key aspiration of our regeneration efforts. A diverse stock of housing in relation to size, type, cost and tenure will boost the towns social and economic vibrancy.
It is recognised that private housing will dominate the new stock although Clydebank re-built is working closely with the landowners, housebuilders and the local housing associations to ensure availability of affordable and social rented housing in the new developments.
The first phase of housing on the riverside was at Cart street where CR built 40 new homes for social rent on behalf of Clydebank Housing Association. These were completed in September 2009 and the new tenants of Queens Gate, as it is now known, have been settling in to their new homes.
Despite an outstanding planning consent for the first phase of housing on Queens Quay, the development has not yet started. Current economic circumstances are preventing the correct financial conditions for both builders and potential purchasers.
